About Me

I am a carpenter in the Seattle area, with a degree in linguistic anthropology. I love wood and artisanship, history and words. Learning the trades was quite truly learning a new language, and I’m fascinated by the history embedded in the terms and phrases we use in construction.

I married into a French-Canadian family and speak the language. I feel a bit like the dad in My Big Fat Greek Wedding who can relate every single word, no matter how outlandish, back to a Greek origin—but for French. To be fair, though, many English labor terms come from a time in history when English-speakers were under Norman rule. My research mainly comes from digging into the online etymological dictionary, but sometimes my own knowledge of certain languages does factor in and influence my interpretations. I’m no expert on this stuff, and this isn’t an academic source. For reals.

I’m also a mother, musician, writer, and artist.

So that’s About Me.
